The 99 Sets, also known as Cash Sets, are premium Martial Arts Sets added to the Cash Shop shortly after the game's launch, each costing Gold 99 Gold. Releases occurred monthly or bi‑monthly, with each set available for a limited time. These sets provided unique skills with flashy visual effects, strong status effects, and above-average damage.

These sets are no longer available in the Cash Shop. For a time, legacy 99 Sets could be acquired through the Louyun Order and Jade Fragment exchange systems, but both of these options have since been removed from the game. Currently, only SVIP players can purchase 99 Sets directly from a special shop exclusive to them. These SVIP players control the supply and typically set their own prices on the secondary market, often demanding significant amounts of real-world currency. The only exception is the Dragon Subduing Slap, which remains obtainable through the Louyun Order.

History[]

Early reports noted that players didn't take the 99 Sets seriously because the damage wasn't that much higher than normal skills. Later sets introduced powerful area‑of‑effect attacks, crowd‑control abilities, and crowd-control immunity states that far exceeded the capabilities of standard school skills. It was observed that around 30% of PvP play consisted of the latest 99 Set.

As these sets stacked up, their designs grew more extreme. Later 99 Sets offered everything a rich player would want: range-pull, massive AoE attacks, and Red Armor. By contrast, the traditional school martial arts were left rarely used. In some cases, the 99 Sets formed a rock–paper–scissors dynamic: without a specific set, a player was vulnerable until a later release introduced the only set capable of countering that gap. Tencent/17173 interview with the game director even admitted, "When the 99 Set 'Yuanyang Twin Blades' was released, it ended the zero-spend playstyle," acknowledging that players who didn't shell out were left with no viable path in PvP.

Balance adjustments were minimal. Aside from occasional bugfixes, the 99 Sets remained overwhelmingly powerful. In practice, almost no one used traditional school martial arts in high-end PvP. Player backlash was palpable across Chinese forums, social media, and community sites, forming a notorious part of the game’s legacy: "The ubiquitous 99 RMB martial arts – which have no prestige in wuxia novels – utterly crush the eight sects. The promised 'True Wuxia' ideal has become nonsense." Reception among English‑speaking players mirrored that of the Chinese community. Some praised the sets for adding variety to PvP. Others criticized them as pay‑to‑win, arguing that traditional school skills became obsolete.
