Painter is a Cultural Life Skill, similar to Calligrapher, that allows the player to annotate scrolls:
- Life Skill Records: Painters can create scrolls that provide experience points for some other Life Skills.
- Martial Arts Skill Annotation Books: a piece of equipment that reduces the amount of Cultivation Points required to level up Martial Arts Skills. Painters cannot create these items, but can activate their effect.
- Combat Annotation Books: a piece of equipment that grants a passive combat ability. Painters cannot create these items, but can activate their effect.
To use the Life Skill, the player must have a calligraphy brush in their backpack.
Learning the Life Skill[]
Players can learn the Painter Life Skill by paying a small fee in Silver Coins to a Painter NPC, who can be found in the starting towns (Qiandeng Town, Yanyu Villa, Jiming Posthouse, Chengdu), major cities (Suzhou, Luoyang, Jinling, Yanjing), Evil Men's Valley, and the Great School of Scholars. However, players who have already mastered another cultural Life Skill must abandon it before they can learn the Painter.
Upon learning the Life Skill, the player will gain access to the Painter crafting skill and identity titles. After claiming the first identity title from the identity menu (hotkey U), the player gains access to the Painter daily tasks.
Experience Points[]
Painters earn experience points by crafting Life Skill Records and completing the daily tasks. When a Ruyi Pill is active, all experience gains are multiplied. The Life Skill can be leveled up to Rank 10, and leveling up the skill will allow the player to annotate higher tier Annotation Books.
Life Skill Records[]

Life Skill Records are items crafted by Painters. They can be read by practitioners of the following Life Skills: Musician, Weiqi Player, Blacksmith, Tailor, Craftsman, Chef, Herbalist, and Poison Maker to gain a small amount of experience points. The crafting materials can all be purchased from the Painter NPC for Silver Coins.
Painter Manuals[]

Before the player can craft the item, they must first study a Painter Manual. There are multiple ways to acquire manuals:
- The Painter NPCs in various scenes sell several Painter Manuals.
- The Painter NPC at the Great School of Scholars sells a unique selection of Painter Manuals.
- Stack of Books can be looted for some Painter Manuals.
- Chests in Forbidden Instances and Influence Challenges can be looted for some Painter Manuals.
- Random Encounters may reward the player with Painter Manuals.
For a list of all Painter Manuals and how to obtain them, see: List of Painter Manuals.
Daily Task[]
The Painter daily task is an item fetch quest that can be started by talking to the Apprentice NPC standing next to Painter NPC. The task can be done once per day, with each task requiring two Life Skill Records. Reaching a new Life Skill rank will reset the daily quest cycle, allowing the player to complete an additional daily task.
The task reward is a bound scroll that grants Painter experience points when read.
