This page documents an Age of Wushu Wiki policy, a widely accepted standard that all editors should normally follow.
|
As a visual medium, using images and other media from Age of Wushu that are copyrighted to Snail Games is unavoidable. However, steps can be taken to ensure that all images and media used by the WushuWiki falls within the legal priciples of fair use within the United States.
What is fair use?
In United States copyright law, fair use is a doctrine that permits limited use of copyrighted material without acquiring permission from the rights holders. Examples of fair use include commentary, search engines, criticism, news reporting, research, teaching, library archiving, and scholarship. As the WushuWiki intentions it to be a resource to players about the mechanics of and items in Age of Wushu, we believe that our use of copyrighted material qualifies under fair use.
File quality and use in articles
Images should clearly depict their subject matter and contain no compression artifacts. The preferred image file format is PNG (Portable Network Graphics). The main subject should also be in focus, and the image should contain no distracting elements (for this reason it may be necessary to crop the image).
Any files that you add to an article should increase the readers' understanding of the subject matter. The file should also be used for a purpose that cannot be fulfilled by text. It is for this reason chat box images should not be used. Images of your bank assets are also not recommended in articles.
File naming
When uploading a file, make sure that its name is clear and descriptive, without being excessively long. While the image name doesn't matter much to the reader (they can reach the description page by simply clicking on the image), it matters for editors. It is helpful to other contributors and for maintenance of the encyclopedia if images have descriptive or at least readable file names. For example, "File:Skyline Frankfurt am Main.jpg" is more helpful than "File:14004096 200703230833355477800.jpg".
For technical reasons, file names cannot contain any of the following characters, as these would conflict with wiki syntax: # < > [ ] | : { } / . For the same reason they also cannot contain sequences of tilde characters (~~~).
Like other wiki page names, File names are case sensitive except for the first character, which will always be normalized to uppercase.
Licensing
When uploading a file to the WushuWiki, a licensing template must be added to the image. A drop down menu containing all the necessary licenses will appear on the upload page. Selecting an option automatically adds a licensing template to an uploaded image. Files without a licensing template may be deleted.
